Elections – It’s already time to begin the nomination process for several WSAFM Board positions.  Our bylaws outline that the terms of office for Board members is 2 years, so each year one-half of the Director positions are up for election during our annual Fire Prevention Institute.

For 2020, there are 5 positions up for election as outlined below.

Board Position #2 – Traci Harvey (Spokane Valley Fire Department).  Traci is the incumbent for Board Position #2 and is seeking reelection.

Board Position #4 – Ben Shearer (Pasco Fire Department).  Ben is the incumbent for Board Position #4 and is seeking reelection.

Board Position #5 – Robert Ferrell (WSRB). Robert is the incumbent for Board Position #5 and is seeking reelection.

Board Position #6 – Steve Riggs (Burlington Fire Department).  Steve is the incumbent for Board Position #6 and is seeking reelection.

Board Position #8 – Robert Bradley (Olympia Fire Department – Retired).  Robert is NOT seeking reelection for this position.

Anyone WSAFM member wishing to be nominated for one of these positions must provide to the Elections / Awards Committee proof of membership, a letter of support from their employer, and a statement of intent for consideration.  This information can be sent to me at jon.dunaway@ci.longview.wa.us.  The deadline to have this into the committee is 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 14th, 2020.  If you would like to know more about the duties of the Board, you can call me at (360) 442-5538 and I’d be glad to discuss this with you.

Because the 2020 FPI is being postponed until 2021, we will need to hold our elections online via GoToMeeting.  More information will be sent to the membership as the details of that meeting are arranged.

2020 Awards – I am pleased to announce that nominations are open for awards to recognize WSAFM members who are doing outstanding work in fire prevention, community risk reduction, and within the WSAFM organization.  These awards, presented each year during our annual Fire Prevention Institute, are Fire Marshal of the Year and WSAFM Member of the Year

The nomination process begins by filling out the form located in the linked document below and submitting it to the Election / Awards Committee.  Follow the directions on the form and attach any supporting documentation as requested.

Submit the completed form and additional information to me no later than 11:59 p.m. on September 14, 2020 at jon.dunaway@ci.longview.wa.us

Thanks everyone.  Be safe and stay healthy!
