Bylaw Amendment Proprosal

To all WSAFM members;
 
Consistent with Article X of the by-laws of the Association, the Board of Directors announces these proposed amendments to the WSAFM By-Laws.  The attached document outlines the proposed changes, the reasons for the changes, and the Board’s recommendation to the membership.

WSAFM Announces its Quarterly Newsletter….


Thanks to suggestions by the members of the Washington State Association of Fire Marshals, we are proud to be issuing the first quarterly email newsletter.  The purpose of this newsletter is to inform the members of the activities that the Board and other members are involved in as well as to provide education and resources to our members.    Why do we need a newsletter? 

Keep up to date with new information  
Receive notification of upcoming code hearings or changes  
Provide a regular notice to members of upcoming activities 

 What is WSAFM? The Washington State Association of Fire Marshals is an organization comprised of seven divisions working on: National Codes, State Codes, Legislative Issues, Professional Development, Communications, Fire Prevention Institute, and Fire Investigation.  Membership in the Washington State Association of Fire Marshals is open to individuals in four categories: Governmental, Associate, Educational and Retired. There are many benefits to membership for individuals in all categories.

2018 Fire Prevention Dates And Keynote Speaker Announced

Fire Prevention Institute Dates - October 23 - October 27, 2018

Join us at Campbell's Resort in Lake Chelan for the annual Fire Prevention Institute, Monday, October 23, 2018 through Friday, October 27, 2018.  Dr. David Griffin will open the FPI as keynote speaker, speaking on the Sofa Super Store fire and how it has shaped massive reforms on how firefighters are trained as well as how executives lead their teams. His message, "In Honor of The Charleston 9: A study of Change Following Tragedy" uses video footage from the fire and presented by the first due engineer on scene of the multiple line of duty death.

FPI classes that are confirmed are:

Basic Plan Review / Advanced Plan Review
Elevator Testing
Medical Gas Systems
Pressure Regulating Devices in Commercial Fire Protection
Food Trucks
Fire Alarm Intelligibility & Occupant Notification Requirements
Understanding the Hazardous Materials Requirements of the IFC
Social Media - Balancing Fire Department Policies and First Amendment Rights
Fire Investigation Track

Classes will include training hours needed for code re-certification.  WSAFM will issue ICC Credits.

For lodging reservations, contact Campbell's at (800) 553-8225.  Please be sure to provide the registration code #406984. Room rates will be based on the government per diem rate in effect on October 1, 2018.  In order to receive this special rate, reservations must be made by September 15, 2018.  Once this date has passed, or the room block filled, you will need to find alternative lodging.
