Vision 20/20 Releases Study on Smoke Alarm Issues in the United States

Vision 20/20 (www.strategicfire.org) is releasing an in-depth analysis of smoke alarm and related research focusing on why smoke alarms may not be in as widespread use as previously thought.  Using an extensive literature review and data gathered during a number of Vision 20/20 Assistance to Firefighter Grant funded Community Risk Reduction projects, the study, The Smoke Alarm Problem, sheds light on the problems the fire safety community faces in getting people to install and maintain enough smoke alarms to properly protect their families...

Washington Fire Marshals and Building Officials Directory

The file below is an attempt to establish a directory of all Fire Marshals, Building Officials, Inspectors, permit technician, and other position that may be involved in the building and fire code process.  The list was put together by the State Fire Marshal’s Licensing Section with the assistance of a number of jurisdictions.  We apologize if anyone is left off or if any of the information is incorrect. If you have a correction, addition, or deletion please forward it to the State Fire Marshal’s Office at firesprinkler@wsp.wa.gov. They will attempt to keep the list current.  The file is set up for printing the directory which is 13 pages.

This two-hour online training course will focus on Fire Alarm Inspections, Testing, and Maintenance. This course will provide attendees with the requirements found in NFPA 72 Chapter 14, Fire Alarm Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance which applies to all fire alarm systems. The presenter will be John Swanson, NFPA 72 Technical Committee member.

16 Nov 2020 Fire Inspector Boot Camp 11/16/2020 8:30 AM - 11/19/2020 4:30 PM
This four-day online class will cover in-depth details of all aspects of a fire code inspection. Students will learn to identify common code violations found in the International Fire Code and International Building Code.
 
Day two and three will focus on more advanced fire code inspection topics. It is designed to assist in the identification of fire protection systems, as well as what maintenance is required on such systems.
 
Students will be able to identify when systems are required or when they have been altered and require repair. Day four will be all about navigating the codes and getting familiar with the layout of the IFC and IBC.
 

Participants will be going through question and answer segments to help with test preparation for the Fire Inspector 1 certification through the International Code Council.

10 Dec 2020 2018 IFC Code Update Class 12/10/2020 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
 The 2018 International Fire Code goes into effect February 1st, 2021 in the State of Washington. This one-day online course will cover code changes from the 2015 to the 2018 edition of the International Fire Code. In addition, a review of the latest Washington State amendments to the Fire Code will be covered.
