Announcement Regarding Marijuana Extraction Facilities

The State Building Code Council (SBCC) has adopted emergency rules regarding marijuana extraction facilities. The emergency rule went into effect on July 1, 2015. 

This new rule establishes specific requirements for the handling of hazardous materials, establishes inspection standards and provides construction and permit requirements to ensure life/safety for occupants, first responders and the public. 

I encourage you to have your fire prevention officer or other applicable staff review the regulations which apply to both new and existing facilities...

20 Oct 2015 2015 Fire Prevention Institute - VENDOR REGISTRATION 10/20/2015
The Washington State Association of Fire Marshals, in conjunction with the Washington State Fire Marshal's Office, and NW Chapter of IAAI will be hosting the Fire Prevention Institute, October 19-22, 2015 at Campbell's Resort, 104 W Woodin Ave, Chelan, Washington 98166.

Do you provide a service or a product that can help us improve our service delivery or prevent fires and injuries? If you are interested in meeting the buyers of today and tomorrow, learning your customer's needs, demonstrating new products, expanding your market area, increasing your sales, or establishing new contacts, you will not want to miss the opportunity to participate in Vendor Night! This is a great opportunity to meet those who are end users of your products and services.

The audience will include city and county fire marshals, public educators, fire prevention officers, state officials, and other interested organization and corporation leaders. 

This year will feature lunch with the vendors on Tuesday, October 20, followed by "Vendor Night" Tuesday evening. You are encouraged to set up between 9:00 am to 11:00 Tuesday morning to catch attendees during breaks and lunch. If you are not set up by 11:00 a.m. you may do so after 1:30 p.m., as the Vendor Reception will begin at 5:00 p.m.

The annual Fire Prevention Institute, co-sponsored by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Washington State Association of Fire Marshals has a valuable agenda, and is designed to meet the needs of those involved in providing fire and life safety services, focusing on important prevention and strategy issues facing fire officials.

Fire Chiefs, Fire Marshals, Code Enforcement Personnel, Public Educators, Building Officials and Fire Investigators will benefit from the varied agenda.  The multiple-day, multiple-track format offers a self-directed, facilitated learning environment with education sessions, interactive forums, and a vendor /technology exhibition.

The Institute provides networking and training opportunities, the ability to share information, programs and resources that are available to assist in efforts to reduce deaths, injuries and losses from fire, and focuses on important prevention and strategy issues facing fire officials,  The Fire Prevention Institute includes essential training hours needed for code recertification.  WSAFM will issue ICC Continuing Education Credits!
